Mikó Straw at Alpe Adria Eventing Cup, Austria
''We have chosen Mikó Straw as it has all the quintesential characteristrics which are important for our horsemen and horses. It is a dedusted, really absorbent and quality bedding. The bales are pressed, so they are easy to move. For us it is an important factor that the transport of manure is simply solveable, as Mikó Straw degrades quickly and environmentalfriendly. In short, we are really satisfied with this new bedding and we can just recommend it!" (MartinJäger)
Manfred Wakonig and Martin Jäger, both known and respected horsemen, have chosen Mikó Straw as the official bedding for Alpe Adria Eventing Cup!
Our company was one of the official sponsors of the Alpe Adria Eventing Cup. There are 6 races at the series of the event where horsemen from Austria, Italy and the Republic of Slovenia are participating. Reitstall Wakonig (Austria) was the host in Maria Rain between 17-19 June wherethe fans of horse races could participate on a wonderful race. There was also a Mikó Strawbarrier! (Check the pics on facebook!) Of course, Mikó Straw was the only bedding available, so the horses could rest on this really soft, natural bedding. Besides, Mikó Straw was really popularand beloved what means a huge success for us!

Why is Wheat Straw the best for a horse bedding?
There are different types of straw such as wheat straw, barley straw, rye straw or oat straw. Let’s take a look at the different characteristics of these types!
Wheat Straw as Bedding/ Chopped and Dedusted Wheat Straw
The most commonly used bedding is made from wheat straw and it is described as the best bedding for animals. It is also the most absorbent among the different types of straw. Besides, horses like to eat wheat straw because it is not bitter.
Chopped and dedusted wheat straw, like Mikó Straw, is quite new on the market. In comparison to normal wheat straw it is 10 times more absorbent and there will be 75% less manure. Horses do not really like to eat chopped straw because it too small for them and they cannot chew it properly. Chopped and dedusted straw is ideal for allergic horses!
Rye Straw
Rye Straw is not so popular among horses as it contains lingin which is too bitter for these animals. Besides it is too hard and too long for them. It is not as absorbent as wheat straw or chopped straw!
Barely Straw
The second place among the different types of beddings ist he barely straw but it makes a cache of different risks: the beards can harm the mouth and the face of the horse, there could be some Apera spica-venti, which is responsible for the different illnesses of horses. Although it is really absorbent and has a high nutrition value.
Oat Straw
It is not so frequently used as it is not really absorbent. If you want to use this kind of straw, you should be careful to buy really dry oat straw because it gets mildew easily. Horses really like its taste but one should be careful with it because horses can eat too much from it and they can get diarrhea very easily.
I hope that you will find our article about the different types of straw useful!
